Lumen Printing

Lumen Printing

Today I have completed a workshop on creating photographs with out using a camera. I love the idea of creating images with out having to release a shutter or even turning a camera on. This technique is very similar to photograms (exposing light to photographic paper in the darkroom with objects on it).
The only difference with lumen printing is that you expose the photographic paper to UV light (sunlight) for 30minutes minimum.

I went outside to collect some leaves and flowers ready to create a lumen print, I then went in to the darkroom to get a clip board, I placed the photographic paper on to the clip board and then placed my objects where I wanted them and put the glass on top and placed it in direct sun light for 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes had passed I went to collect my clip board from outside, I took all of the objects of the paper so that I could scan the Lumen print in. (You can not fix these prints, so they will not last very long).

I used Photoshop and Silver Effex Pro 2 to create this Black and white version of the lumen print. I am extremely happy with the outcome I got from this workshop, however If I was to do Lumen prints again I would think more about composition of how I place the objects that I use.

Pin-hole Photography!

Today I realised the realism of photography and how it all started of with the camera obscura which then led on to photographers creating prints from pin hole cameras. You can make pin holes with anything as long as you make them light proof.

Below are some images that I created using a baby milk tin with a pin hole in it.

This workshop gave me a much better understanding on exposure times because I had to think about each image with the weather conditions.
